It's been a monumental year for the Adenuga brothers. Originating from the same Tottenham household, Skepta and JME have really taken Grime across the world this year with their individual success', which has also helped shape a massive year for Grime music.
In so many ways, this concert was a celebration of their achievements this year after seeing their music manifest like never before. As we know Skepta has built a strong presence in the US, rubbing shoulders with an array of artists including Drake, Pharrell, and Travis Scott. JME has been tearing down stages with his first project in the 5 years 'Integrity>' and seeing the brothers come together for this show was a treat that most Grime fans have been heavily anticipating.
On Friday night, Brixton Academy opened it's doors to 5000 concert attendee's waiting to see one of the final 'Shutdown's of 2015 after crazy performances this year including Skepta's takeover of Holywell Carpark in the summer.
Supporting them was a strong lineup explosive performances from artists that Skepta & JME have worked with in recent years including CASisDEAD, Novelist, and 2015's Best Newcomers, Section Boyz. With supporting acts of this calibre, it's difficult to describe as a 'warm up'.
The night even included a surprise performance from Stormzy sending a sold out Brixton Academy wild wit his top 10 chart hit 'Shut Up'
The Meridian brothers then took to the stage performing a mixed set of their hits back to back, mixed by their legendary in-house DJ and BBK member Maximum, before bringing out more of the Boy Better Know members to perform lyrics that have engraved them in the history of Grime music. After a night like this, the future for Grime looks the brightest it ever has.
